Don’t be fooled, this is not just a cheese lover dish, you can make an Arepa in many different ways with many different foods!
How to Make “Arepa Con Queso” (Breakfast & Dinner Plate)
First, you need a few ingredients, that’s an advantage too! You don’t really need too many ingredients to prepare this plate.
- Harina P.A.N. or other corn flour (you can find this in any supermarket.)
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Butter & Oil
Get a big bowl and put two cups of corn flour into it. Then put two cups and a half of water and after cleaning the hands start mixing the two ingredients until it is homogeneous. Throw a little amount of salt and start mixing again, remember doesn’t have to be salty at all. Finally, add around 1 ½ cup of mozzarella cheese, mix this with your hands until it gets sticky.
Once everything is mixed, start making a ball of it with your hands. After the ball is made smash it into a thick rounded shape, not too flat. Now, you are ready to use the stove.
Using a frying pan, add a little bit of oil to the surface. Add each one to the frying pan, the stove has to be around 300-340 degrees.
Here’s a tip, have a spatula with you and be ready to flip every arepa when necessary, this should be around 6-10 minutes for each side, so keep an watchful eye.
Now comes the part that is the most fun, you can finally start placing the arepas in a plate with the spatula and put some butter on the top of every surface and a little salt. Another creative, traditional, and of course delicious idea is to place all shredded cheese on the surface.
You are done! Now you can enjoy this delicious plate with some hot chocolate, coffee, or another drink you like, and just enjoy!
